Dining Out on a Diet

There is nothing to argue about - dining out when you are on a healthy eating plan is very stressful. This is especially true for people that love to eat out a lot. Going to your favorite restaurant can seem like torture. The important thing to remember is that there is no reason why you have to give up dining out all together. Just keep in mind that you do not need to splurge on all of your favorite foods when you go out to eat.

When you are going out to eat the restaurant’s the menu can be a bit confusing. There will be foods on there that are fattening, delicious and will tempt you to stray from your plan. You just have prepared and make smart choices.

That is why it's a good idea to plan in advance. Look online to find the restaurant’s menu and if that doesn't work call and ask about their healthier choices. This way you will know exactly what you are going to order before you get there and you won't be tempted as easily. This way you can relax and enjoy your meal.

When you order think about eating more salad or soup before starting to eat the main entree. When choosing you must be careful to watch though what type of soup and salads you are eating. Some are rich in calories and can leave you feeling even hungrier than you were before.

Try to order things like a vegetable soup or a salad with lemon or the dressing on the side, this will help reduce your calorie intake more than you think. Another thing to keep in mind is that most restaurants will give you more than just one serving size, so it's a good idea to keep an eye on your portions.

It is easy to have guilty pleasures with food when you are eating at a restaurant. Many of the restaurants will have options for those that are dieting, but it can still be hard to pass up the tempting calorie loaded food. You can make your meal healthier with a few easy to do things. One example is to order steamed vegetables or fruit instead of the chips or fries that most likely come with the meal. You can also choose to forget the cheese when it comes your burger.

For a lot of people dressings and sauces are hard to resist. They are a large source of fat and calories that you may not even notice. That is why another good thing to remember is that the creamy sauces are not likely to be good for your diet. Meat and chicken sauces, light salad dressings and on the side cream sauces will help you keep your fat intake in a reasonable manner.

Having the quantity control is very important. Restaurants will bring you a much larger portion than what you need most of the time, so you should eat less of the meal when you are dining out. This way eating out can become as safe as your healthy meals at home. One more idea you can use when you are eating out is to share your meal with your dining partner or split the meal and take the rest home for the next day. This is like two meals in one.

Just remember that you do not have to wreck your healthy eating plan when you are dining out. Keep your portions and calories under control. Make smart choices and you will find that you can enjoy eating out and be healthy too!
